Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind;

it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is amatter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it isthe freshness of the deep springs of life.

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of theappetite for adventure over the love of ease.

This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20.

Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting ourideals.

Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles thesoul.

Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back todust.

Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being's heart the lure ofwonders, the unfailing appetite for what's next and the joy of the game ofliving.

In the center of your heart and my heart, there is a wireless station; solong as it receives messages of beauty, hope, courage and power from man andfrom the infinite, so long as you are young.

When your aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows ofcynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you've grown old, even at 20;

but as long as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there'shope you may die young at 80.

ladies and gentlemen, teachers, my fellow students:

i am very excited and feel it's a great honor to stand here to deliver myspeech. what i'm going to talk about is “choice in my life”

i can still remember the first time i failed in a singing contest. iimmediately ran to my grandma, shedding lots of tears of course! i cried loudlyand could hardly utter a word!

then, badly needed comforting words and touch came from grandma. igradually regained my sense of pride and a sensible control of my feelings. yet,head down, i said: “grandma, i have no choice, and i have to give up, right?”“look at me, my dear!”she said gently. i looked up, straight into her eyes. whati saw was a shining, sweet, and loving stream from the bottom of her heart!then, there came the gentle voice of hers: “no, no, no…” her head shaking, whileeyes smiling. “why don't you give more attention to the details?” shecontinued.

no other words were needed any more! i started practicing and rehearsingonce again, paying special attention to those little things that i used toignore. as a consequence, my overall performance was quickly elevated to a newhigh! without much trouble, in another singing contest held months later, iwon!

what do i learn from this experience? never give up lightly! life's full ofopportunities, and lots of them! to realize your dreams and fulfill yourpotential, you must learn to work hard and smart and steer your lifeboat wisely!as a li ling's sportswear commercial goes “everything is possible!” but notwithout sweat, devotion, and tears sometimes!

life is a long journey, during which we are surely going to face manychallenges, experience lots of failures, and equally, many opportunities arewaving to us, while sweet rewards are waiting for us! to transform theseopportunities into fruitful results, or turn those challenges and failures intovaluable assets, we must learn to seize the good ones and not to retreat lightlyin front of difficulties.

winners can never be quitters!

thank you all!
