中年級時，他對中國歷史文化產生濃厚興趣，其中看中那偉大的愛國精神。他會背誦許多愛國詩詞。一次語文課樑老師叫我們講一些愛國的故事，並背一些有關的詩詞。他高高舉起了手，講了“岳飛精忠報國”的故事，並背了他那首被流傳千古的《滿江紅》：
