been in lots of diners, and they've always seemed to be warm, busy, friendly, happy places. That's why, on a recent Monday night, I stopped in a diner for a cup of coffee. I was returning home after an all day car trip and needed something to help me make the last forty-five miles. A diner at midnight, however, was not the place I had expected. It was diffhrent, and lonely. My Toyota pulled to a halt in front of the dreary gray aluminum building that looked like an old railroad car. A half-lit neon sign sputtered the message, "Fresh baked goods daily," on the surface of the rain-slick parking lot. Only a half dozen cars and a battered pickup were scattered around the lot. An empty paper coffee cup made a hollow scraping sound as it rolled in small circles on one cement step close to the diner entrance. I pulled hard at the balky glass door, and it hanged shut behind me. The diner was quiet when I entered. As there was no hostess on duty, only the faint odor of stale grease and the dull hum of an empty refrigerated pastry case greeted me. I looked around for a place to sit. The outside walls were lined with empty booths which squatted back to back in their orange vinyl upholstery. On each speckled beige-and-gold table were the usual accessories. The kitchen hid mysteriously behind two swinging metal doors with round windows. I glanced through these windows but could see only a part to the large, apparently deserted cooking area. Facing the kitchen doors was the counter. I approached the length of Formica and slid onto one of the cracked vinyl in soldier like straight lines in front of it.

There is no doubt that every parent wants to give the best to their children, so they nurse their children very carefully. They decide everything for them, because the parents think they are experienced and can make sure the kids won’t go the wrong way. In my opinion, the parents should let the children make their own decision.

On the one hand, parents can’t make all the decision for their kids. When the kids grow up, they need to be independent and think in their own way. The parents’ intervention will hinder the children becoming mature. As an adult, he can’t even make his own decision, how ridiculous.

On the other hand, it is children’s right to make mistakes. Most parents have made mistakes when they are young, so they don’t want their kids go their ways. But sometimes making mistakes can help the children grow up and become the strong person, they will learn lessons from these mistakes.

Parents should not do all the things for the children, as the saying that growing up needs to pay the price. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes, it is necessary for the children.

A person should never make an important decision alone. Important decisions should be well thought out. People who know you well, know what is best for you. People close to you can give you good advice, give you a different perspective, or share their own experience.

When I had difficulty deciding which classes to take in college, I talked to my teachers and advisors. They had the knowledge and expertise to help me determine which classes were the best ones to take for my future career. Without their advice, I might have chosen unsuitable courses.

In college, I had convinced myself that I was not good enough to act in the school play. Therefore, I decide not to audition even though drama bad always been my passion. The day of the auditions, a friend of mine asked me why I wasn't auditioning. When I told her I didn't feel I was good enough, she was shocked. She was able to provide me with another perspective on myself and my talents. I rethought my decision and tried out... and got a lead in the play.

Last year when I was trying to decide whether or not I should study overseas, I talked to my friend. This was the best thing I could have done. This was a big decision for me because I had never been overseas on my own and I wasn't sure I could do it. She had studied overseas the previous year. She told me about the challenges and opportunities I might encounter and helped me make the right decision. I went and it was amazing!

Whenever I am faced with an important decision, I seek advice from others so that I am well-informed and have the benefit of their perspective and experience.

Many people have the difficulty to make decision, because they have no idea what they want and then just follow the crowd. When they realize what they want, they feel regretful. For the lucky person, they have the chance to restart, while for some don’t, they just live the life without passion.

I remembered before we went to college, we needed to choose the major. Most students did not know what to do, so they made a survey, the hot major which was believed to have the promising future was their first choice. As they studied, some would find they had no interest but they just couldn’t give up. If they thought twice before act, then they would not follow the crowd.

I appreciate the saying that you are so special, why you have to follow the crowd. Indeed, some make their decision for the purpose of catering for others, which go against their will. If people lose their inpiduality, they lose their soul.

A man's character is destiny. An inescapable truth lies at the heart of t simple yet profound truth: The quality of our lives is not determined by the happenstance of genetics or by the influence of environment; it is not measured in material possessions or in the trappings of youth; it is not dependent on personality or social acclaim. On the contrary, the intrinsic value of the lives we lead reflects the strength of a single trait: our personal character. We should take the steps to personal growth from examining our lives to taking responsibility for our actions, from discarding selfishness to embracing the greater good, from being a better role model for our loved ones to finding the courage to do the right thing naturally and consistently. By cultivating the habits of virtue, we will strengthen not only ourselves but, more important, our families and our world.

Each and every day we are faced with scores of choices that, in subtle yet discernible ways, can either enrich or impoverish our personal character. The choices we make, and the manner in which we make them, illuminate the paths our lives will take. Our character can be our pass that leads to our destiny.

At first glance, the picture is very simple. We see that when a person designs with a brush, there is an interruption of his thinking as he does not know how to continue his design. The words on the picture is: solution out of a new phrase has profound guiding significance for us to realize sound development and success.

As we all known, the man who wants to be success should have a good disposition. As the saying goes, “disposition decide to everything.” I remember a famous motto: there are no two identical people in the world, but the success people are similar in many ways. Exactly, good disposition is the foundation of success. From my point of view, I deemed it success should also rely on these factors: diligent, confident, humor. It can help us to open the door of success.

There is no denying that diligent is the first step to the success. As the proverb says, no pains, no gains. Absolutely, guess that a person without diligent, how can he get achievements. Many successful people have bee famous in the world by their diligent. Therefore we should take diligence as a good habit rather than lazy at every time.

Edison said “confident is the mother of the success. There is no doubt that confidence is important to our daily life someone without confident, he will never succeed in the end of his life. If someone trusted himself, he would gained more chance to succeed. How could you get other’s trust if you didn't trust yourself?

In addition, humor plays an important role in our life. It’s obvious that a sense of humor can bring happiness to others and get involved to a group easily. Just like my friend who is an energetic and lovely boy. The boss and staff like him very much. Boss thinks highly of him in the

pany. Sometimes, we should learn to how express humorously. A sense of humor can create unexpected result.

From what has been mention above, a good disposition is an importanat factor to our success. Therefore, how to develop a good disposition is essential.

Disposition Decides to Man’s Success

these days, nearly all of my classmates are talking about whether to take the post-graduate examinations or not. some of them want to take the exams, because it has gradually become a trend; of course, there are some people who do want to go on with further study ; some are still uncertain . and i have already decided to work soon after graduation, which makes many people surprised: “why do you make such a decision ----”, for they think i have been working so hard and can do well in the exams.

i don’t like to go with the stream blindly. i have no desire to take the exams and i won’t force myself to do what i am not interested in. besides, i seldom make a decision on impulse or rashly and i have thought over my choice again and again. we have never seen a stick with only one end, so there are certainly reasons for my determination.

firstly, my family is the most important factor for my consideration. it is so difficult for my parents to bring me up that i feel ashamed to give them much more burden. i have been more than twenty years old and should have been able to live on my own. but i am still a student. and last week, my youngest sister had an operation on her left eye, which cost my parents a lot of money , and which added new burden to my family . i am the oldest child in my family with one brother and two sisters, and i know clearly that my parents hope i can find a job as soon as possible after graduation, although they don’t tell me directly. i feel very distressed when i think of my parents, so i hope to share their ndly, i want to acquire some experience and be a skilled person but not a person who only knows study. i have stayed at school for more than ten years and have been a bit tired of the stereotyped school life: being immersed in hard study. i am not so intelligent as others, and i have to spend more time than them on my study. my brains have nearly been drained off and over-burdened. i don’t have the energy to continue study. besides, we know too little about the outside world and sometimes just look like fools when chatting with other people, and some even don’t know what pliers look like. it is no wonder why others call us students bookworms.

some people feel that i am short-sighted and have made a wrong decision that i will regret for it in the future. everyone has his own set of values ;only he himself knows what he has to take on. if i really want to receive further education, i still can take it during my spare time. after all, every road leads to rome.

It is known to all that women live longer than men generally, because men are under much pressure than women, but a research found that character also had influence on life span. There were over 200 people who were older than 100 took the experiment and the result showed that people who were outgoing lived longer.

The conclusion of the experiment helpes people to cultivate the good character. The one who is sympathetic and more likely to cooperate with others have lived longer. It is easy to understand the reason. He likes to share happiness and sorrow with his friends. When he is in trouble, many friends will come to help him. So he live with less pressure.

So in the family, as parents’ behaviors have great influence on their children, they will decide what character their children will have. The parents who are open-minded and optimistic will lead the kids to a bright future and live happily and longer.

Character can’t decide people’s fate, but we can learn to make some changes and to be a better person. A healthy man means both physically and mentally healthy.

What is success? I think different people will have different answers. Some people think that success is earning a great deal of money or working in the government. Or success is nothing but we look for all the time. In my opinion, success is quite simple. It means you can live the life you want and you can feel happiness very often. Sometime, money cannot bring you happiness or satisfaction, and you can’t have the feeling of success. Because money is just the tool to achieve your goal but never the goal. Therefore, looking for what you really want and then work hard for it. Then you are close to success.

When doing the same thing, some people success but some fail. There must be many factors leading that result. In my view, the most important factor is the difference of confidence, determination and sociability are the foundation and condition of success.

Most famous people have said that details determine success and failure. I agree with them because I believe that a small mistake may lead to the failure of a large project. Thus, we must pay attention to every small detail and make sure that we do not make any mistake. To avoid small mistakes, we have to be careful and serious when we are doing work. For example, when we are doing our math homework, we should check it after we finish. It allows us to avoid careless mistakes and helps get as many marks as we can. It is not very difficult to be successful if we pay attention to details and avoid careless mistakes.

Last week, my teacher told me that I got the important role in the New Year's drama. I felt so lucky. Thinking about my school time, I always treated myself as a lucky girl. When I told my friend this idea, she did not agree. She said luck couldn't be around me all the time, only my effort that made me successful. What she said is true. I am very strict to myself and keep studying very hard. When the chance comes, I am already to show myself. When my teacher told us to compete for the important role, I practiced many times to fight for it. So I got the role without question.

No matter what you do, you need keep attentive. This summary comes from the thing toady I experienced.

I had a long plan for going to city of H, moreover, I had told my friend that I would get there on November 11th. What a pity! I read the time wrong. As a result, all my plan was disrupted in a minitue. Not only myself but also my friend were disappointed.

From the experince above I learn that we cannot miss any details, otherwise you will taste the bitter. There is the classical saying "Details determine success or failure" is absolutely true. Keep in mind, be attentive, always and ever.

As a child, I get used to do what my mother tells me. I will get lost if my mother doesn’t give me the task. As I grow up, I realize that the future is at my hand, and I am the one who decides my future. So I must be independent and find my own way. I need to grow up step by step.

Directions: "For thispart, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Attitude Is Everything by commenting on the proverb, “Every horse thinks its own pack heaviest."You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

Attitude Is Everything

There is a well-known proverb,"Every horse thinks its own pack heaviest," which means whether people feel optimistic or not lies in what attitudes they adopt. It is universally acknowledged that life is by no means perfect and a positive attitude makes life brighter. As the case stands, it is our attitude rather than the situation itself that determines how we feel.

On the one hand, a positive mind brings about an active life, because to be in a good mood or a bad mood is at one’ s own choice. On the other hand, looking at the bright side of the situation and remaining cheerful work out quite well when one is confronted with adversity.

In such a rat-race society, everyone is bound to encounter difficulties. In my opinion, we should keep an optimistic attitude to pull through any hardship, as we can say "attitude is everything".

I disagree with the statement that the decisions people make quickly are always wrong. However, I think those decisions probably turn out to be wrong more often than carefully made decisions do. Usually, fast decisions are based on what we call our “gut reactions,” or feelings we have about a situation. Sometimes these gut reactions are based on good sense backed by experience, but sometimes they’re based on nonsense or poor reasoning.

Let’s say you’re at work and the boss calls you to his office and tells you there’s a big project that needs to be done. He thinks you’re the best person for the job, but he needs an answer from you on the spot. He hasn’t told you what the project is, but you make the quick decision to accept. This is the right quick decision, because you’re basing it on a lot of factors that will occur to you later. One is that it wouldn’t make sense for the boss to ask you to do something he didn’t think you could handle. That would only hurt his business. Plus, doing a good job on this project might help your career. You realize it’s good to reach higher, if you want to get ahead.

But let’s say you’re on a deserted highway late at night and your car breaks down. Along comes a car driven by someone who doesn’t seem quite right to you. He offers you a ride to the nearest gas station. You make the quick decision to accept the ride because it’s late, you’re cold and tired and you don’t want to sit there waiting for the highway patrol to arrive. This is a case where a quick decision is a wrong decision. You shouldn’t trade your personal safety for physical comfort, and if you thought about it, you wouldn’t.

How do you know when it’s okay to make a quick decision? You have to be able to guess at the possible benefits versus the possible dangers. If it’s a small decision like where to go to lunch, who cares? However, if my whole future were at stake, I’d want as much time as I could get to think about it.

In the past, we were always sitting in the classroom listening to the teacher. The teacher was always explaining too much about sentence, patterns, grammar and so on. We all felt tired of what we were taught and not able to remember everything. Even worse, we couldn't use the language. Now our teacher has changed the way of teaching. Sometimes, he gives us time to do things or to practice English. Sometimes, he lets us getting information and give information in English. And he often lets us work in pairs or on groups. Thus, we not only learned some English Knowledge but also use the lauguage we learned to solve problems.

In modern society, traditional patriarchy is still influencing Chinese parents. They tend to make almost all decisions for their children, from choosing schools to picking up a times even many detailed things such as clothing and diets have to be decided by parents.

However, deciding everything for children does not help them but harm them in many ways. On the one hand, it will make children lack independence and initiative, which is unfavorable to their development in the long run. On the other hand, in many cases, parents' decisions are not always in accordance with their children's personal ideas and interest. It will make children form resistance and naturally influence their growth.

From my point of view, it is unwise for parents to male every decision for their children. It's obvious that parents cannot accompany their children all the time. Growing to be independent is the natural way for everybody. Therefore, parents should give their children rights to make their own decisions. They can help their children but not replace them to make choices.

Graduation day arrived — I saw Kyle and he looked great. He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. He had more dates than me and all the girls loved him!

Boy, sometimes I was jealous. Today was one of those days. I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, "Hey, big guy, you'll be great!"

He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled. "Thanks," he said. As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began. "Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach... but mostly your friends. I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story."

I stared at my friend in disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. He had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. "Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable."

I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile. Not until that moment did I realize its depth.

Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you can change a person's life. For better or for worse. God puts us all in each other's lives to impact one another in some way. Look for God in others.

Without a doubt, hard work is a much better predictor of success than natural ability. In my experience, I have seen this at work in sports, school, and work.

Many athletes have a natural ability to run the fastest mile or kick the ball the most accurately. Unless they work hard though, they will not be stars. They need to train daily, eat properly, live correctly. It takes hard work to be Number One.

At school, I have seen many very bright students do poorly on exams. They count on their intelligence to get them through. However, unless they do their homework every day, participate in class discussions, and study for exams, they will be the bottoms of the class.

Many salespeople can talk with anyone and convince him or her to buy something. They have a natural ability to sell. They must however apply some hard work to this skill. They must learn a lot about their customers, about the product they are selling, and about the market, they must put some effort into the paper work that goes along with the sale. If they don’t follow through, the sale will not be made.

Whatever the area, whether on the playing field, at school, or on the sales floor, a person must not rely on his natural ability along if he or she wants to succeed. They must work hard to be a success.
