首先尋找一本用於模仿的教材或書籍，要求教材課文或書籍文章為中英文對照，文章難度課略低於大學聯考試題閲讀文章難度(推薦新概念二冊，學有餘力者可以參考新概念三冊)。每練習一篇文章時，先熟悉文章內生詞。在掌握生詞之後，可直接對照文章的中文，將其一句句轉寫成英語，其間若有不會寫的地方，也不要參考文章英語原文，可按照自己的理解將其寫出。待全篇文章寫完之後，再將自己寫的文章和文章的英語原文進行對比。這樣，在對比的過程中，尋找到自己在語言表達方面的不足，學習並掌握新的或者地道的英語表達方式，從而提高自己的語言運用能力。

以新概念三冊為例，來看幾個可供學習的語言點。第十五課開篇第一句話“孩子們總是喜歡得到一些零用錢做禮物。”不少同學在轉寫時會將“喜歡”寫成“like”，這樣的語言顯得相當單薄。然而對比作者原文“Children always appreciate small gifts of pocket money.”不難發現，使用“appreciate”來表達此含義，無疑更加精確。又如第四十六課，其中一句“現在我們自己動手做事的熱情很高……”相當一部分同學在轉寫成類似於“Our passion is great for doing things for ourselves…”這樣了無新意的句型；然而對比原文“ So great is our passion for doing things for ourselves…”難道這種將表語置前的倒裝句型不會更加新穎嗎？類似於此種例子，在新概念教材中林林總總，不勝枚舉。
