物主代詞常用語表示兩個名詞之間的所屬關係，但有時，定冠詞the常用來代替物主代詞。在簡短的對話中或表示比較的非正式文體裏，賓語可以代替主格在句子中作主語。如果比較狀語從句的'謂語保留，則主語用主格，比較雙方會發生誤解時，主格和賓格不能替換。在口語裏或強調句子中賓格可替代代主格在句子中作表語，有時，主格可替代賓格。
