As time goes by, people are being busier and busier with working, such as signing their contracts, meeting their customers, drawing up the balance sheets of their companies and so on. In this circumstance, people forget our most excellent skill--smile.

The last but not the least, it reflects calm of a person when he is in danger or in trouble.

connect, combine, join, unite

這組詞都有“連接”的意思。它們之間的區別在於:

ect指兩個不同的、分離着的事物在某一點上相互接觸(可依靠媒介物),但各自仍保持原有的特性及獨立性; combine指兩個或多個東西“攪拌”“滲透”或“混合”,合而為一,但已失去原有的特性; unite意思是“聯合”“結合”“合併”,指把兩件以上同種類的東西緊密地結合在一起,重新組成一個整體,使其合而為一,也可用於無形事物的結合; join意為“聯合”“聯結”,指使兩個分開的東西聯結起來或把一個東西加入到另一個裏面去,使它們合在一起,但個體形象仍然存在。例如:

Africa is connected with Asia at the spot where the Suez Canal was dug.非洲在開鑿蘇伊士運河的地方與亞洲相連。

She combined some sugar, flour and butter to make some cookies.她把白糖、麪粉和黃油和在一起做小甜餅。

Let us unite to fight poverty and disease.讓我們同心協力與貧窮和疾病作鬥爭。
