My best friend and I made our first trip to Ireland less than a year ago. I wasn’t very excited about it at the very beginning. But my uncle wanted me to visit Ireland and offered to pay for my t rip. Then I did. All of the words “magical, charming and memorable” don’t even describe what Irel and is. Our favourites were Kilke nny, Cobh and Killarney. We did a self-driver tour.

We stayed in a castle in Dublin for two days, where my ancestors(祖先) came from. The town we thought we might be bored in was Kilkenny, but we loved every minute we were there. There were so many places to explore and the pictures we took were beautiful.

It was so exciting to see the little village of Cobh and know it was the last stop for the Titanic(a famous ship) at that time. We loved the visitor centre there and the little shops. We never got any bad food there. It was so mouth-watering at every stop! And when we stayed in Westmeath, we saw the Trim Castle through the windows and found some scenes from Brave Heart which was filmed there. We were so excited. Again, more beautiful pictures were taken in that tiny town.

We love the country, the people, the food and the magic. We would go back very soon. I was so thankful for my uncle who had given me the chance to be there.

I have no words to adequately describe our trip. Go, explore the small villages, eat and enjoy! I still look at my pictures and can’t believe I was actually there.

34. What can we learn from the first paragraph?

A. The writer showed great interest in visiting Ireland at first.

B. It was the first time for the writer to visit Ireland.

D. The car was driven by the writer’s uncle.

35. What can we know from the third paragraph?

A. The Titanic was filmed in Cobh. B. The food in Cobh was delicious.

36. What does the underlined word “adequately” in the last paragraph mean?

A. properly B. strongly C. warmly D. surprisingly

37. Where does the article most probably come from?

A. A scientific fiction. B. A tourist magazine. C. A poem. D. A poster.

April will bring a new product – the Apple Watch – into the market. Last week, the watch was firstly introduced by Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. The price of the watch will differ from $349 to $1,099, depending on its size, strap and whether it is a sports or regular version.

Apple engineers and designers have put in a lot of thought and hard work into creating this "small screen" on your wrist(手腕). The "sensor" on the screen not only detects your finger, but knows the difference between when you are tapping, and when you are pressing harder.

The watch also has “haptic feedback(觸覺反饋)”. You can send personal messages to your friend, such as drawing a star or a special sign with your fingers, or tapping the watch, say 3 times, and your friend will receive those taps on their wrist.

Besides telling the time, the watch will use 'bluetooth' to connect with your iPhone and show calls or text messages that come in.

According to Tim Cook, the watch may open up a whole new area of applications that we had never thought of. Some car factories like BMW have developed an app that allows its car owners to open their cars with the watch. A 'Hotels' app may allow you to open the door to your hotel room without worrying about losing the smart-card. And finally, even airlines are jumping in--passengers may be able to simply wave their wrist to check into their flight.

The biggest use of the watch, however, is as your personal fitness coach. The watch can measure your pulse (heartbeat) using a sensor at the bottom of the watch. It also has the same "accelerometer" as your iPhone, so it knows when you are moving, and also how much you are walking or running. It will remind you if you have been sitting for too long without much activity.

Many stores are planning to stop selling the Nike, Jawbone and FitBit devices(設備) to welcome the Apple Watch. Will Apple Watch really replace these devices and make fitness much more fun?

38. We can learn from the passage that the Apple Watch ________.

A. is designed by Tim Cook

B. was brought into the market last week

C. sells at different prices for different colours

D. will come into the market this coming April

39. With apple watch, you can ________.

A. develop your own personal app

B. connect your iphone with your ipad

C. receive personal messages from your friends’ iphone

D. send personal messages to your friends’ apple watches

40. Many businesses help push for the uses of apple watch EXCEPT ________.

A. hospitals B. hotels C. airlines D. car factories

41. Many stores are planning to stop selling FitBit devices because ________.

A. all of the devices are sold out

B. they cannot make fitness fun

C. they want to welcome the Apple Watch

D. Apple Watch can replace FitBit devices completely

Success does not belong to a select group of individuals (個人). Success belongs to those who are willing to go after it and try their best to do what they have to do. Here are some useful practical ways for you if you want to be a success.

Desire. Desire is the strong wish to achieve a goal. Without desire you have nothing. Before you can run with desire, your goal must be plain, clear, and it must also be exciting.

Show up. Seventy percent of success in life is showing up. You can’t have a best seller, if you have never written a book. You can’t get your dream job, if you’re afraid to turn in an application. Showing up doesn’t guarantee(保證) success, but if you don’t show up, you won’t succeed.

Fail. Unless you’re willing to have a try, fail unhappily, and have another try, success won’t happen. To have success you have to do things the right way, but often the only way to do something right is to first fail at it. As Thomas J. Watson said, a simple formula (公式) for success is to double your rate of failure (失敗). So welcome failure, become a student of failure, learn from failure, and soon you will succeed.

Work Harder. Everyone runs, but everyone is not willing to run for an hour every day. Success is not about doing what the common person can’t do. It’s about doing what the common person is unwilling to do. And on a deeper level, it’s about creating habits that the common person is unwilling to create. It’s the habit of doing things with excellence that causes success.

Enjoy the Journey. Success is a journey, not a destination (終點). Success is not a certain car or a certain house or a certain happy marriage. Success is the enjoyment of the journey. You have to enjoy the journey.

Someone once said, “Unless you change how you are, you will always have what you’ve got.” You have to change, you will change, and you will succeed.

42. Which of the following is NOT mentioned in achieving success?

A. Working hard. B. Good education. C. Strong desire. D. Enjoying failure.

43. What does the writer really mean by saying “Everyone runs, but everyone is not willing to run for an hour every day.” ?

A. It’s not easy for people to develop their health.

B. You are sure to meet with some difficulty in your life.

C. Keeping working harder is necessary when you go after success.

D. Most people don’t want to spend too much time running.

44. Which of the following is TRUE about success according to the passage?

A. If you want to succeed, you should have special talents.

B. If you want to succeed, you’d better not show up.

C. Success is about doing what the common person can’t do.

D. Success means the enjoyment of your gain or loss on the journey.

45. The best title of the passage might be_______________.

A. The Importance of Success B. The Meaning of Success

C. Success or Failure D. The Five Main Steps to Success

We all dream about things that we would like to do and things we hope to achieve in the future. But are everybody’s dreams the same? Here are some of the findings of a survey about hopes and dreams, in which thousands of students across China took part.

What are the hopes of teenagers? We received several different answers to the question: what would you like to do after you finish your education? It seems that some students would like to start work as soon as they can, so that they can help offer their parents better lives. Other students hope to go on studying after they finish school and to go to university. Although money is important, many teenagers want to do jobs they like. According to the survey, the most popular choice of job is computer programming.

What are the dreams of teenagers? Teenagers have all kinds of dreams. Some are more realistic(現實的) than others. For example, many students would like to be volunteers if Beijing could hold the World Cup, maybe working as translators or tour guides. And many students dream of having a trip to every corner of the world one day.

According to the survey, less realistic dreams are also common, but many students reported that they were willing to work hard to achieve their dreams. Quite a few dreamed of becoming famous, perhaps famous sports people or singers. Some students would like to go on exciting trips. One student would love to sail across the Pacific Ocean. And then there are dreams that there is no possibility for students to achieve. Three students would like to be able to fly.

It is clear from the survey that teenagers have similar hopes. It seems that most students hope to have a good education and find a good job. On the other hand, students dream of very different things: good things, and even crazy things. It is very important to dream, so hold on your dreams, one day they may just be realized.

A survey about some Chinese students’ hopes and dreams

The National Reading has been put in the government work report in order to encourage a love of reading in all Chinese people.

However, some Chinese people seldom do some reading in their spare/free time because they don’t have reading habits/the habits of reading. Some say that they are too busy to do some reading/Some are so busy that they have no enough time to do some reading; others think that it’s useless to read.

But I think reading is important in our life because we can get knowledge through reading. It can not only help open up a new whole the world to us but also make us wiser/think better. And at the same time, we can improve our skills or get great fun from reading.

So, I’m going to pay more for books, magazines and other kinds of reading materials. And I will also spend more time in reading every day.
