在複合句中，修飾名詞或代詞的從句叫定語從句，被修飾的名詞或代詞叫先行詞，引導定語從句的連詞叫關係代詞（who, whom, whose, that, which, as）或關係副詞（when, where, why, how），它們在從句中必須作成分，現歸納總結如下：

關係代詞 whom 的用法：

要點：既能引導限制性定語從句，又能引導非限制性定語從句，修飾先行詞是表示人的名詞或代詞，連詞在從句中只能作賓語，作賓語時，連詞有時可以省略，具體如下：

1．引導限制性定語從句，修飾先行詞是表示人的名詞或代詞，連詞在從句中作vt.的賓語，可以省略，如：

1) is a girl (whom) people like at first sight.

她是一個人人們一見就喜歡的姑娘。

2)e is the comrade (whom) I saw yesterday morning?

我昨天早上見到的那位同志在哪裏？

3) man (whom) my father saw in the street is my teacher.

我父親在街上看到的那個人是我的老師。

2．引導限制性定語從句，修飾先行詞是表示人的名詞或代詞，連詞在從句中作prep.的賓語，可以省略，

但介詞提前時不能省略，如：

1) sister married the man (whom) she was engaged to.

=My sister married the man to whom she was engaged.

我姐姐和與她訂婚的那個男子結了婚。

2) that the man (whom) you arrived with yesterday?

=Is that the man with whom you arrived yesterday?

那就是昨天和你一起來的那個人嗎？

3) comrade (whom) you spoke to is a model worker.

=The comrade to whom you spoke is a model worker.

和你説過的話那位同志是個模範工人。

4) man (whom) you are talking about is in the next room.

=The man about whom you are talking is in the next room.

你説的那個人在隔壁房間。

5) is the student for whom I bought the book.

這就是我為他買書的`那個同學。

6) is the man from whom I learned the news.

就是那個人，我從他那裏得到這個消息。

7) girl with whom you work is his girl firend.

= The girl whom you work with is his girl firend.

和你一塊工作的那個女孩是他的女朋友。

8) baby (whom) the nurse looks after is healthy.

保姆照顧的那個嬰孩身體健康。

9) girl on the right of whom sat a young man was a woman doctor.

右邊坐着一個年輕男人的那個女孩是個女醫生。

3．引導非限制性定語從句，修飾先行詞是表示人的名詞或代詞，連詞在從句中作vt.或prep.的賓語，

不可以省略，如：

1) mother, whom he loved dearly, died in 1818.

他母親於1818年去世了，他很愛他母親。

2) Hua, whom you came across in the street last month, went abroad two days ago.

你上個月在街上碰見的小華，她兩天前出國去了。

3) Howe, whom you met at the station, is from America.

豪小姐是美國人，你在車站見過她。

4)a has a lot of famouse writers, one of whom is Lu Xun.
