一年夏天他來到四川嘉州。聽説府城城東凌雲山正江水洶湧、波浪滔天，危害生靈。一天，他想去看一看究竟，便攀着巖壁來到凌雲山腳。忽見一個壯年男子躺在水邊，一動不動左手拿鑽，右手拿錘。海通看了，馬上把他背了起來，過了好一會兒，那名男子才慢慢甦醒過來。
