2017年2月16日雅思小作文真题Task:The chart below shows the percentage of international students in Canada and USA , also compare the three top source of countries in Canada and USA.
Sample answer:
The tables show information about the number of oversea students in Canada and the USA and how the number changed in two academic years.
In terms of Canada, most students came from China and the number experienced a dramatic increase by 14%, rising from 3210 to 3741. The rest of the students mainly came from the USA and India, both of which saw a moderate growth by 6% and 7%.
The situation in the USA was not the same case, with most students coming from India (10052 in 2002 and 14041 in 2003 ). And only a small number of students was from China, though the data rose by 7% from 1741 to 2312. 6421 students came from Canada in 2002, however, this figure had fallen to 5742 by 2003.
To sum up, compared with Canada, there were much more oversea students from these three countries and the number of students in both countries witnessed a slight increase between 2002 and 2003.
2017年2月16日雅思写作大作文真题Some people think “vertical city”, where people live and work in high buildings is the best. Others think “horizontal city” is better, where there are few tall buildings. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Sample answer:
People hold divergent opinions about where to live. Some citizens prefer to live in cities with high-rise buildings while others believe cities with more flat buildings are better for us.
Much space can be saved if people live in skyscrapers. As we all know, there is a rising demand for housing in many countries, especially in countries with large population like China and India. The land is so limited that people must make the best of it. In this case, constructing more tall buildings is a perfect way to achieve efficient land use. Apart from this, it also adds to the appearance of a city, creating an impressive skyline. Cities like New York and Shanghai are famous for their lively skyline.
On the other hand, it is also understandable why some people prefer to live in cities with few high-rise buildings. Skyscrapers look modern but impersonal and some people feel disconnected from nature when living in buildings made from glass and steel. By contrast, quite a number of low-rise buildings are old buildings of cultural significance and people living in them feel more connected to the past. The Siheyuan (quadrangle courtyard) in Beijing is a typical example of this kind of building.
In my viewpoint, both kinds of buildings are needed to cater for the changing demand of modern life. In terms of recreational areas and commercial districts, where overcrowding has become a problem, there should be more skyscrapers while regarding to residential areas, I believe living in low-rise buildings is better. The function and comfort level should be taken into consideration when city planners design the city.

第一段做同义改写,把两边改写一下就成~
When it comes to the issue about city layout, some people may argue that filling a city with tall buildings is an optimal choice while others believe that there should not be so many skyscrapers in a city.
On the one hand, a city full of tall buildings may have more development opportunities. It is acknowledged that high-rise buildings mean a higher spatial efficiency because those buildings could accommodate more enterprises. Then, some industrial zones or central business districts may be constructed, contributing to more working opportunities. Thus, a vertical city full of tall buildings actually has huge economic potential.
第三段则去说一下没那么多高层建筑的'城市更有人情味
On the other hand, residents may have a stronger sense of community if there are not so many high-rises. When people reside in tall buildings, they do not communicate with neighbors frequently. However, if there were many low-rise buildings, residents would be more likely to meet neighbors in public areas like parks where they could communicate mutually or do exercise together, but not just take an elevator to their floors and live a lonely life. Then, residents may not be so indifferent to others and harmonious communities could be established.
最后,和稀泥,不同的人适合不同的城市~
From my own perspective, vertical cities and horizontal cities have different characteristics and the key question is what kind of life one pursues. Providing that a person is ambitious to fulfill his/her life target, a vertical city may be a suitable choice because of more working opportunities there. In addition, citizens who want a higher life quality should choose to live in vertical cities since more services and high-tech products could be provided by enterprises. However, if a person prefers a quiet life, dwelling in a horizontal city should be his/her first choice since the pace of life is slow and leisurely.
