關於Kick the bucket專題的英語口語

　　Kick the bucket

這是英國俚語，其表面意思是踢掉水桶或踢倒屠宰架，通常用於比喻死亡或壽終正寢。

Those guys are just waiting for their old man to kick the bucket so they can get his money.

那些不孝的兒女正在等待他們的老子一命嗚呼以便瓜分他的財產。

I’m not at all surprised that he finally kicked the bucket. He was not in very good health.

他最終去世了，對此我並不感到意外，因為他的身體一直都不怎麼好。

Kick up one’s heels.

踢腳後跟，通常用來比喻休閒、放鬆，引申的意思是指慶祝活動或者玩個痛快。

After these exams, I intend to kick up my heels a bit.

考完試後我想玩一玩。

He had no time to take a holiday and kick up his heels when he came back from the war.

當他從戰場上歸來時，甚至沒有時間去休假去休假或慶祝一番。

Kick the habit:

戒除惡習，那可是件令人happy的事。habit本來是指“習慣”，但在這一習語中加上了定冠詞變成了“惡習”的`意思。Kick的意思是“踢”，“踢掉惡習”就是“完全戒除”。

I’d like to quit smoking, but I just can’t kick the habit.

我不想再吸煙，可是怎麼也沒能完全戒除惡習。

有時把具體惡習的詞語放在habit前面，如kick the drug habit.

Once Carl kicked the drug habit, he became a model citizen.

Carl戒掉吸毒的惡習之後就變成了一個模範公民了。

如以上所講，這種表達法一般用於“對身體健康有害的惡習”，但有時也用於其它的惡習：

I think my brother has finally kicked the gambling habit.

我想我哥哥總算完全戒除賭博的惡習啦。

這一表達法還用於戲謔的場合：

I really can’t afford to date so many girls, but it’s tough to kick the habit.

跟那麼多的姑娘約會我承受不起，不過惡習難改啊。
