實用口語：英文“心”意知多少

很多國家的語言都有大批圍繞“心”而形成的俗語。漢語中有關“心”的成語和習語數不勝數，英語也不例外。下面是一些常用的短語：

釋義：

fall的意思是“落下”，在改習語中轉移為“跌倒，摔倒”，副詞flat有“平”的意思。從字面上看，改習語有“平平地摔下”的意思，引申為漢語中説的“摔得結結實實”，並進而轉義為“落得無趣”。它主要用來指某人的故事，笑話或表演沒有得到預期的效果。

範例：

If they won'tcooperate, our plan will fall flat.

如果他們不肯合作我們的計劃就會落空。

Yes, it's really embarrassing when your ideas fall flat.

brushup：複習，温習

解詞釋義：

brush是動詞，意思是“把......刷乾淨”。Brushup本義是“打扮整潔”，引申為“重新學習過去的技能”，即“温習，複習”。

支持範例：

如果你要去墨西哥，你應該複習你的西班牙文。

jinx 通常指不吉利的人或物。其實“掃帚星”指的是“彗星”。在英語中沒有對應的比喻義的翻譯，不能譯為“comet”，應該是jinx。

Wet behind the ears如果直譯: 耳朵背後是潮的。它可能來自這樣的説法: 小馬、小牛剛生下來的時候全身濕漉漉的;別的地方很快會幹，但是耳朵背後卻還是濕的。所以説某人耳朵背後是潮的，是把這人比作剛生下不久的嬰兒了。換句話説就是他簡直像新生兒一般幼稚無知。

blow one’s cool：沉不住氣，控制不住

釋義：

習語中cool做名詞用，有“冷靜”和“鎮定”等意思。Blow one’s cool常用來形容人“沉不住氣”或“失去控制而激動起來”。

範例：
