例如，在今天要學的第一個習慣用語裏shakes就是名詞，而且根據習慣這個短語裏的shake還帶有複數詞尾-s。這個習慣用語是：no great shakes。No great shakes這個習慣用語聽來意思是沒引起多大的.震動。換句話説也就是平凡普通、中不溜秋的東西或者事情。
