我所謂“準確”大略相當於嚴復的“信”。嚴夫子説：“求其信而大難矣”。我説：“信則萬事畢矣”。準確有很多方面的含義。首先是意義的準確，這似乎無庸贅言。但是，詩與散文不同，它的內容與形式是有機地統一的，換句話説，即詩的意義至少部分是體現在形式之中的。所以，翻譯散文可以“得意而忘言”，譯詩則不可以。
