　　(一)、 中國人與英美人打電話有很大差異。用英語打電話要掌握以下幾點：

1. 打電話人接通電話後可説：Hello ! 接着説：This is king./Could(May)I speak to sb.?/Is ? 但不能問：Whoare you?接電話人可説：Hello!Good morning/afternoon/ evening.緊接着 將自己的電話號碼或姓名告訴對方。如：(This is ) 3531968./This is Jim speaking.

2. 問對方是誰， 不説：Who are you ? 而應説：Who's thatspeaking(calling)?/May I have y our name? /Is that sb. (speaking)?

3.代人接電話，最好説：What name shall I give?/Who shall Isay is calling? 若要離開去叫人， 須跟對方説：Hold the line,please.I'll get him/her to phone.(別掛斷，我就去找他(她)聽電話。 )或Hold on for a moment.(請等一會兒。)反之， 若電話要找的人在身邊，代接電話的人可説：It's for you.或For you. (你的電話。)

4. 如果打電話要找的人不在， 代接電話的人可説：Sorry,he/she isn't in.或I'm afraid he/she is o ut.(他/她不在。)如果問對方是否要留話，説：May I take a message for you? /Can Itake a messag e?/Would you like to leave a message?

打電話者若要拜託接電話人轉告要找的人某事時， 可問：Couldyou take a message for me?/Please tell him (her)that(sth.)……./Tell him(her)I called./Will you please tell him (her)to c all me back later?

5.若對方打錯電話，接電話者可説：Sorry,you've dialed

the wrong number. 打電話人發現拔錯號碼， 應説：Sorry,I'vedialed the wrong number.

6.若電話的線路忙或有問題，可説：The line is busy. (佔線。)The line is dead.(斷線。)

　　(二)、電話對答

　　情況 (一) 打電話的人找的是你自己

對方：Is David there? David 在嗎?

你可以回答：Speaking. 我就是。

This is he. 我就是。 (注: 女的用 "This is she.")

You're speaking/talking to him. 你正在跟他説話。

This is David. 我就是 David。

That's me. 我就是。

　　情況 (二) 打電話的人要找的人不在

對方：May I speak to Mr. Liu? 請問 Gates 先生在嗎?

你可以回答： He's not here right now. 他現在不在這裏。

He's out. 他出去了。

He's in a meeting right now. 他現在正在開會。

You've just missed him. 你剛好錯過他了。

He's just stepped out. 他剛好出去了。

　　情況 (三) 打電話的人要找的人不在, 問對方是否要留言

對方：Can I talk to David? 我可以跟David講話嗎?

你可以回答：

He's out on his lunch break right now. Would you like to leave a message? 他出去吃午飯了, 你要留言嗎?

He's not available right now. Can I take a message? 他不在, 我可以幫你傳話嗎?

　　情況 (四) 打電話的人問他要找的人何時回來

對方：Do you know when he will be back? 你知道他什麼時候會回來嗎?

你可以回答：

I'm sorry. I don't know. 抱歉, 我不知道。

I have no idea. 我不知道。

He should be back in 20 minutes. 他應該二十分鐘內會回來。

　　情況 (五) 打電話的人問他要找的人在哪裏

對方：Do you have any idea where he is? 你知道他在哪裏嗎?

　　情況 (六) 打電話的人要找的人不在, 願意接受對方的留言

對方：Can I leave a message? 我可以留個話嗎?

你可以回答：

Yes. Go ahead, please. 可以, 請繼續。

　　情況 (七) 接受對方留言時聽不清楚, 希望對方重複
