“媽媽，我剛開始學的也聽不明白，不過播音員不是解釋着嗎？”我搖搖頭説。

“快看，這工人最後説的bye（再見）是什麼意思？”

“那是再見的意思。您不也國中畢業嗎？您怎麼聽不懂英語呢？”

“哎，別提了，那時我學習很不認真，成天只知道玩，現在後悔也來不及了。”媽媽深情地望了望我，“穎兒，你一定要好好學習呀，不能像媽媽這樣一無所長呀。”

媽媽望了望電視，自言自語地説：“唉，要是我也會説英語那該多好啊！……”

我安慰道：“媽，沒關係的。不如我來教你學英語吧，怎麼樣？等奧運會辦完後許多外國人肯定會到胡適故居來參觀的，説不定還會到您的工廠去玩呢！”

“真的嗎？那好哇，我就跟你學英語，説不上我將來也能跟外國人聊上幾句。”媽媽高興地説。
