英語中的倒裝結構一般有否定詞位於句首的倒裝，only位於句首的倒裝，if虛擬條件句的省略倒裝，以及為了強調而進行的倒裝等。倒裝結構一般需要還原句子的正常語序來翻譯。

真題例句1(1998年，75題)：Odd though it sounds, cosmic inflation is a scientifically plausible consequence of some respected ideas in elementary particle physics, and many astrophysicists have been convinced for the better part of a decade that it is true.

句子結構：本題的倒裝句是odd though it sounds。這是though引導的倒裝句，還原為正常語序是though it sounds odd。

參考譯文：宇宙膨脹説雖然聽似奇特，但它是基本粒子物理學中一些公認的理論在科學上看來可信的推論。許多天體物理學家七、八年來一直認為這一論説是正確的。

真題例句2(2009年，47題)：Only gradually was the by-product of the institution noted, and only more gradually still was this effect considered as a directive factor in the conduct of the institution.

　　考研英語翻譯名詞性從句的譯法

1、名詞性從句之重點和難點——同位語從句

名詞性從句包括：主語從句、賓語從句、表語從句和同位語從句。

主語從句、賓語從句、表語從句三種從句直接翻譯成相應的主語、賓語和表語。考研翻譯中名詞性從句的難點在同位語從句，因為漢語中沒有同位語，翻譯的時候要進行相應的轉換。

同位語從句的作用主要是對名詞作進一步的解釋，説明名詞的具體內容。同位語從句常由that引導。首先需要區分that引導的同位語從句和that引導的定語從句。這兩種從句區分的方法之一是看that在從句中是否充當成分。若that不做任何成分，則是同位語從句，否則是定語從句。另外從兩種從句的功能上來區分的話，同位語從句是對前面的'名詞進行補充、説明，而定語從句是對前面的名詞或代詞(即先行詞)進行修飾。

2、同位語從句的翻譯

(1)當同位語從句比較簡單、短小的時候，可以翻譯到所修飾的名詞之前，相當於前置的修飾語。

例句1：The rumor that 2012 Doomsday is inevitable is unfounded.

參考譯文：2012年世界末日是不可避免的這一傳聞是沒有根據的。(增詞)

例句2：Everyone knows the fact that the earth revolves the sun.

參考譯文：所有人都知道地球圍繞太陽轉這一事實。

(2)如果同位語從句出現在主句之後，一般增加"即"這樣的詞來連接，或者用冒號直接引出同位語從句。

例句1：We have reached the conclusion that practice is the criterion for testing truth.

參考譯文：我們已經得出結論：實踐是檢驗真理的標準。

例句2：But this does not in any way alter the fact that they are now, from a practical point of view, irrational.

參考譯文：但這卻絲毫改變不了這樣一個事實，即從實用的觀點來看，它們在今天仍是不合理的。

3)同位語從句位於主句的前半部分，本身又不是很短的時候，往往採用先翻譯同位語從句，再翻譯主句的方法，此時往往重複同位語從句所説明的詞，如"這一想法"，"這一觀點"，"這一事實"等。

真題例句(2007年，48題)：But the idea that the journalist must understand the law more profoundly than an ordinary citizen rests on an understanding of the established conventions and special responsibilities of the news media.

一、as…as…句型

(一)as…as…句型

My parcel is as heavy as yours.我的包裹和你的包裹一樣重。

She is as much interested in music as ever.她和以前一樣對音樂感興趣。

The economic development in our country is as stable recently as formerly.最近，我國的經濟發展和以前一樣穩定。

(二)not as (or so)…as…句型

My uncle is not as (or so) tall as your father.我叔叔不如你父親高。

People are not so honest as they once were.人們現在不如過去那樣誠實了。

(三)not so much …as…句型

通常翻譯為“與其説…不如説…”。

was not so much angry as disappointed.他與其説是生氣，還不如説是失望了。(可以理解為：“他的生氣不如失望多”，就是説“他更多的是失望，憤怒是其次。”)

The oceans do not so much divide the world as unite it.海洋與其説是把世界分割開來，還不如説是把世界連接在一起。

Bad writing is caused not so much by mistakes in grammar as by weakness in style.拙劣的寫作，與其説是語法上的錯誤，還不如説是由於文體上的弱點。

(四)not so much as…句型

not so much as…這個結構相當於“not even…”，所以通常翻譯為“甚至不…，甚至沒有…”。請注意與not so much …as…這個結構的區別。

He didn’t so much as ask me to set down. 他甚至沒有請我坐下。

He cannot so much as spell a word 他甚至連一個詞也不會寫。

He hadn’t so much as his fare home. 他甚至連回家的路費都沒有了。

二、比較級+ than to do…句型

通常翻譯為“不至於做某事”。

You ought to know better than to go swimming on such a cold day. 你不至於這麼冷的天氣去游泳吧。

I have more sense than to tell him about our plan. 我不至於傻到會把我們的計劃告訴他。

I had a better command of English than to make such foolish mistakes .我的英語學得很好，不至於犯這樣愚蠢的錯誤。

三、more…than…句型

(一)more A than B句型

more A than B通常用於同一個人或者事物在兩個不同性質或者特徵上面的比較。翻譯為“與其説B，不如説A”。類似的結構還有less A than B，翻譯為“與其説A，不如説B”，請注意這兩個結構中“與其實説”與“不如説”的對象，即A與B兩者的在翻譯中的位置。

He is more good than bad. 與其説他很壞，不如説他很好。

He is less good than bad. 與其説他很好，不如説他很壞。

He is more a writer than a teacher. 與其説他是老師，不如説他是作家。

He is less clever than diligent. 與其説他聰明，不如説他勤奮。

(二)no more …than…句型

no more …than…句型在意義上與not any more than….一樣，表示對兩者都否定，所以可以翻譯為“…和….一樣不，不…正如…，既不…也不…，…和…兩者都不”。跟no more …than…句型相近，但是意義相反的句型是no less…than…，可以翻譯為“既是…，也是…，兩者都是…”。

His grammar is no better than mine. 他的語法同我的一樣不好。

He is no more a writer than a painter. 他既不是畫家也不是作家。

He is no less a writer than a painter. 他既是畫家也是作家。

I am no more a poet than he is a scholar. 我不是詩人，正如他不是學者一樣。

(三)more than…句型

than後面接數詞，表示“多於…，….以上”的意思。

I have known him for more than twenty years. 我已經認識她二十多年了。

I have more than ten dollars in my pocket. 我口袋裏還有十多美元。

than後面接名詞或者動詞，表示“不只是…”的意思。

He is more than a father to her. 他待她勝過父親。

He more than smiled, but laughed. 他不只是微笑，而是放生大笑。

than後面接形容詞、副詞或者分詞，表示“極其，非常”的意思。

She was more than kind to us. 他對我們非常友好。

He was more than upset by the accident. 這個意外事故讓他非常心煩。
